The content of these seminars is from a Holistic Expressive Therapy perspective and based on insights gained over 35 years of clinical experience and self-development.
The theoretical principles will be addressed in Level 1 and briefly reviewed in Level 2. Level 2 will be a continuation of Level 1 and can be attended on a continuous basis by participants who wish to hone their capacity for attunement and their efficacy as an expressive play therapist.
Learning Objectives and Content:
Theoretical principles as related to the subject of transference and counter transference in play therapy.
- A holistic view of human beings and their innate gifts for Self-Healing.
- Attachment, child development and the effects of interpersonal trauma on child development. - The reparative relationship and its central role in facilitating the self-healing process.
The use of Self as our main instrument in a play therapy session.
Keeping our instrument well-tuned to provide the various layers of safety (physical, emotional, cognitive and spiritual).
Transference/Counter-transference and the therapist's ethical responsibility to develop self-awareness and ownership of personal issues.
The challenges and extra possible triggers specific to using expressive tools in the playroom whether with children or adults.
Regaining and maintaining a compassionate and neutral stance when personal issues have been activated.
Participants will be encouraged to bring their most challenging cases where they felt stuck and forgot all they knew. They will be given the opportunity to explore the part their own attachment patterns and other personal issues might have played in this situation and thus regain a more effective and neutral perspective.
This exploration will be done through discussion and expressive play therapy tools such as the use of metaphors, visualizations, family photographs, art therapy, sand play therapy, writing, etc.
As well as gaining greater awareness of their personal issues, participants will be given the opportunity to explore the unique gifts and strengths they have gained on their personal/professional journey and discover practical ways of remembering to use them when most needed.
Please do not wear any scented products as the playroom is a scent free zone in consideration for those suffering from environmental allergies.
