Overview

The major focus of this seminar is on helping children strengthen themselves and discover more beneficial ways of coping with a difficult living situation that often cannot be changed. We will explore ways of providing a safe place for them to begin to heal their wounds at their own natural pace, in the midst of an unsafe world that demands more and more speed.

Children Healing

Learning Objectives and Content:

Theoretical principles of Holistic Expressive Play Therapy as related to the subject of children healing.

We will consider and discuss:

  •  The holistic view of the self-healing process this approach is based on.
  •  The physical, emotional, cognitive and spiritual needs of children in therapy.
  •  The issue of short term and long term therapy and what can be realistically expected ofeach.
  •  The various components of the methods used (relationship, milieu, expressive therapies,family therapy) and the role that each of them plays in the therapy process.
  •  Creating a nurturing and soothing therapeutic environment that includes the beauty ofnature and provides healing and harmonious sense impressions.
  •  The use of ego-strengthening activities (sewing, food, gardening, walking etc..) in   combination with expressive therapies (art therapy, sand play therapy, play therapy, the useof masks, face painting, musical instruments, storytelling, singing, photography) to helpchildren create and internalize healing images that will later support the safe exploration ofwhatever issues they might be struggling with. Participants will also be given the opportunity to experience the many facets of the healing power of imagery through the use of art, sand play therapy, sewing and storytelling.

Fee includes use of materials. Meals and accommodations are not provided.

Please do not wear any scented products as the playroom is a scent free zone in consideration for those suffering from environmental allergies.
